The Giant Panda National Conservation Research Center Officially Opened
The national forest sustainable management pilot project has been advanced, planting 122.3 thousands mu of forest land throughout the year, shifting the focus from increasing forest area to improving its quality. A nationwide voluntary tree planting campaign was launched, with 72 planting sites established and 1.32 million people participating in various tree planting activities.
A system for the handover and management of ancient trees was established, with comprehensive inspections, restoration, and reinforcement efforts. The Ginkgo trees at Dujiangyan's Tianshidong were selected as one of the 100 Most Beautiful Ancient Trees in China, while the ancient tree group at Du Fu's Thatched Cottage was chosen as one of the 100 Most Beautiful Ancient Tree Groups.
The Giant Panda National Conservation Research Center officially opened, and the Chengdu National Botanical Garden was added to the list of national botanical garden candidates. A cloud-based fire prevention monitoring and early warning platform for forest and grassland was built and trial-operated, with video surveillance of forest fires in key areas reaching 71% coverage.

The "Five Greens to Enrich the City" action plan was implemented, focusing on major ecological projects such as the urban ecological belt, Jinjiang Park, and national reserve forests. In 2023, 845 kilometers of greenways were newly constructed (total to 7,003 kilometers), and 1,003 community greenways in residential areas built or renovated. A total of 122.1 thousands mu of crops were planted in the urban ecological area, and four new night cruise routes along Jinjiang River were added.
The "Hundred Flowers Beautify the City" initiative was carried out, improving 1.2 million square meters of landscape quality. Over 80 ecological sculptures were installed, and 4.4 million flowers were replanted, showcasing Chengdu’s unique vertical greening features such as the "Sky Garden" on the Second Ring Road and the "Green Fairyland."
The "A Thousand Parks Merging the City" initiative focused on integrating urban and park spaces. A total of 30 new parks were built, including the World Sci-Fi Park, and 29 older parks, such as Wangjianglou Park, were renovated.
Efforts to prepare for the International Horticultural Exhibition 2024 Chengdu have been ramped up, with 112 exhibition gardens planned and constructed. The total number of exhibition gardens, as well as the number of international and corporate exhibition gardens, has set new records for any previous B-class International Horticultural Exhibition in China. The construction of the main and sub-venues is progressing well, with the main venue 89% completed.

Guidelines for park greenway accessibility and shared maps were created, and over 100 lifestyle consumption spaces were established using green open spaces like parks and greenways. Additionally, 1 million square meters of sunshine tent areas were set up, which can accommodate 200,000 people for camping. These practices were recognized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and have been promoted nationwide.
Mass participation events like the "Tianfu Greenway International Cycling Race," "Beer Festival Carnival," "Tianfu Greenway Health Walk," and "International Garden Season" were held. Popular activities such as cycling the 100-kilometer city loop, birdwatching and sunrise viewing at Longquan Mountain, and night cruises along Jinjiang River have become new trends,illustrating the diverse beauty and charm of the Park City.
The national forestry reform and development pilot project has been deepened, including the construction of the "Tianfu Forest Granary" and the upgrade of the "Forestry Co-management System" 2.0. The forestry industry is gradually transitioning from "small resources and small industries" to "small resources and large benefits."
In line with the national "dual carbon" strategy, carbon sink surveys and monitoring were carried out. A special fund for carbon neutrality was set up in the Tianfu New Area, and methodologies for urban greening carbon sinks were developed. A total of 40 ecological carbon reduction projects have been developed, with 55,800 tons of carbon certified.
