One-year Countdown: The Construction of Sub-venues for Expo 2024 Chengdu is in Full Swing

       The 2024 Chengdu International Horticultural Exhibition (hereinafter referred to as “Expo”) is due to kick off on April 26, 2024. It is believed that Chengdu’s unique ecological resources and development prospect of the landscape and horticulture industry will attract global attention during the Expo. And as the first city reputed as a Park City in China, Chengdu will present a wonderful horticultural event to the world.

       As a fresh innovation of the international horticultural exhibition approved by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (hereinafter referred to as “AIPH”), the Expo will be staged in one main venue and four sub-venues. The main venue lies at the center of the Chengdu Eastern New Area’s Jiangxi River Ecological Corridor, and the four branch venues, which are  themed around modern agriculture, Sichuan-style bonsai art, flower industry and biodiversity conservation respectively, are located in Chengdu’s suburban districts Xinjin, Wenjiang and Pidu, as well as Qionglai City, to promote the philosophy of green and sustainable development and the vision of beautiful life with poetic dwelling. On the occasion of the one-year countdown to the Expo, let’s take a close look at the construction of the four branch venues.

       The Sub-venue in Xinjin

       A Vast Expanse of Paddy Fields is in the Making

       The sub-venue in Xinjin features the stunning landscape of a boundless stretch of paddy fields in the China Tianfu Agricultural Expo Park. It’s reported that a professional team is designing the pastoral landscape of the whole area, which, themed on Tianfu Agriculture, will epitomize and visualize Baodun rice culture, Xinjin water conservancy culture and Tianfu granaries, to create a panoramic view of vast paddy fields. By now, 12 major functional facilities, including the main exhibition hall and the paddy land, have been built.

       The Venue in Wenjiang

       Chengdu Flowers and Trees (Agricultural Products) Import and Export Park has been Completed

       With the Expo approaching on the calendar, the construction of sub-venue in Wenjiang is underway as per the plan of “One park, one museum and one axis.” According to a recent media report, new progress has been made in the park, which is named as Chengdu Flowers and Trees (Agricultural Products) Import and Export Park. The main building, exterior decoration, landscaping and planting of large arbor have been completed and are waiting for acceptance. The park will be put into operation at the end of May. During the Expo, it will serve as a facility for exhibitions and displays, distribution of flowers and plants, cultural creation of flowers and trees, as well as large-scale business conferences, etc.

       The Venue in Pidu

       9 Projects, Including Spring Garden Center, have been Concluded

       Through intense preparations, the construction of the sub-venue in Pidu is now going well. Up to now, 9 of the 25 projects planned to be built inside the site, involving the Spring Garden Center, as well as the conservation and restoration of local Linpan, have been finished. Six projects, including the main exhibition hall, a B&B hotel, a ring road and a landscape bridge, are being built. Currently, the scheme design of the landscaping of the venue’s south section and Space (Chengdu) Smart Plant Factory is being optimized, and is expected to bring under construction in July this year.

       The Venue in Qionglai

       The Main Body of the Exhibition Hall will be Completed in Late August

       Qionglai’s Linji Town is one of the branch venues for the Expo. At present, the construction of the Longmen Mountain Biodiversity Expo Park, which begins from an area of more than 7,000 square meters, is in full swing. “Covering a planned area of about 80 hectares, the project will be invested with a total of nearly 460 million yuan. The facility’s annual visitor flow is expected to hit 300,000 after it becomes operational.” According to the leader of the project, so far, 30% of the park has already been built, and the planning and exhibition center can now be open to the public. 28% of the main exhibition hall has been concluded, and its main body will be completed by the end of August.
