The International Horticultural Exhibition 2024 Chengdu (the Expo) concluded on Oct. 28, with its closing ceremony held at the main venue of the event in Chengdu Eastern New Area. Cao Lijun, member of the standing committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, announced the closing of the event. Tang Fanglin, deputy director of National Forestry and Grassland Administration, Wang Fengchao, vice secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and mayor of Chengdu and Tim Briercliffe, secretary general of the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), addressed the ceremony. Vice governor of Sichuan province Zuo Yongxiang, president of AIPH Leonardo Capitanio and vice-president of China Flower Association Zhao Liangping attended the ceremony, which was hosted by Chen Yanfu, deputy secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee.
The Expo, with “Park City, Beautiful Habitat” as its theme and “compendious, safe, attractive and professional” as its principles, introduced for the first time the mode of one main venue and four sub-venues. The event hosted 113 exhibition gardens, made a record on the total number of gardens, the number of international gardens and the number of gardens from participating associations and enterprises, with participating cities of the event covering all the five continents around the world. The event hosted over 100 international exchange activities during the period of 186 days, which served to promote international exchange on horticulture, art and humanities. The expo received more than 10 million visitors from China and the world and showcased the achievements of Chengdu in fostering the harmonious coexistence of human and nature and sharing the ecological development.
An awarding ceremony was held at the closing ceremony.
The main venue of the Expo will be named as Chengdu Exposition Garden of World Horticulture and be made a scenario for the settlement of enterprises in the fields of science & technology, culture and commerce to provide for local residents a new venue of quality consumption and services and a new showcase of the achievements in ecological development of the city.
